About The CIOB AI Journey
Most case studies are shared when the work is finished.
This series is different.
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) will share its AI journey while the work is still underway, supported by Intercloud9 and Bluelight. Together, we will show what was decided, what changed and what was learned along the way.
You will also spend time working on your own organisation, alongside people facing similar questions.
Who it is for
This series is rooted in the membership sector, but the practical lessons can be used more widely.
- Chief executives, chief operating officers and directors responsible for strategy or digital change
- Technology, IT and digital leads overseeing AI or automation
- Membership and operations leaders whose teams will be directly affected
- HR and workforce leads considering what AI means for people and roles
- Governance and compliance leads managing strategy, responsibility and risk
You do not need a technical background. This is for you if you need to make the decision, explain it to a board or help your organisation put it into practice.
By the end of the series
You will spend four days working on your organisation across nine months. By the end, you will be able to:
- assess where your organisation stands on AI and support that view with evidence
- take a clear governance framework to your board
- score potential uses of AI and explain why some should come first
- brief a technology partner and ask better questions about its response
- take a focused 90-day plan back to your team

SESSION 1

| Breaking Ground
Building your AI Foundation
Assess your organisation’s current position and identify the gaps that matter most. You will use a maturity assessment, start an Acceptable Use Policy and hear how CIOB approached the same work. You will leave knowing where to begin and what needs attention first.

SESSION 2

| Drawing up the Plans
Selecting use cases and choosing partners
Work through your own list of possible AI uses and score each one against a practical framework. You will also consider how to choose the right technology partner and whether your data is ready. The aim is simple: make decisions based on evidence, not a convincing sales pitch.

Explore prompt design, agent configuration and practical testing. You will also look at how to bring people with you and respond to resistance before it slows progress. CIOB will share what worked and what it would change. You will leave better prepared to brief and challenge a build team.

Embedding and scaling AI across the organisation
Create a 90-day plan for embedding AI and consider how an AI Ambassador network could support adoption. You will revisit your governance framework in light of what you have learned and leave with a roadmap shaped by a real programme.
